Brantley Gilbert Biloxi Concert reviews
I thought 3DG was the headliner?
Brantley Gilbert made the most of a bad situation, well worth the $50. P.O.D. needed better sound, but they still put on a really good show and topped it off with "Alive". Since I heard about the departure of lead singer Adam Gontier, I have been apprehensive about even going to the show. Neil is a top-shelf drummer with a pretty good stage presence, so I enjoyed watching him keep the beat. From the outset it was clear that Shinedown front man Brent Smith was experienced on stage in front of a larger crowd. Moving forward with studio recording, I don't think Matt is the guy to continue the 3DG legacy, but he's adequate for a tour on short notice. I'm now a Shinedown fan more than I was before the show. I had to make a conscious effort to watch Neil Sanderson bang on his skins instead of allowing myself to be sucked in to watching the inexperienced front man. Where he lacks is stage presence. His voice isn't as distinctive or as heavy as Adam's, but the band sounded good. The light show and pyro were well done, and there was even an acoustic rendition of Simple Man for us older folks to enjoy. Even though the band was put in a pretty serious tight spot when Adam left, and they could have easily fallen on their face, or worse, cancelled the tour, I still found myself saying no when Matt asked us if we were ready for Shinedown. I wanted more Brantley Gilbert. I think the sound guys did a great job helping Matt Walst fit in with the sound of the band. Much to my surprise, Brantley Gilbert came out next. I'm normally not a fan of bands trying to teach me something when I go to a show, but I found the video feed of Amanda Todd's story in the background touching while they played Bully as an encore. The set started with Chalk Outline, and included most of my favorites, but it could have been longer. My son also really enjoyed the pyrotechnics. Since I heard about the departure of lead singer Adam Gontier, I have been apprehensive about even going to the show. I think the sound guys did a great job helping Matt Walst fit in with the sound of the band. Well played.
